da apostebet: According to Sky Sports, West Ham United are in talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez, who has a release clause of £13m in his contract with the German club.
da bet esporte: The 29-year-old has enjoyed two successful seasons in the Bundesliga after leaving Manchester United on a permanent basis in 2015, but he has just one year remaining on his current deal.
With an extension looking unlikely as it stands, the Irons could take advantage and bring the Mexico international back to the Premier League as manager Slaven Bilic looks to sign a proven striker.
However, they might not be the only English top flight side interested in the attacker and Southampton may make a move too after being linked with Chicarito in the past.
New Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino will be looking to strengthen his squad this summer and he may well be on the lookout for a replacement for Jay Rodriguez, who joined West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
Here are three reasons Southampton should join the race to sign Hernandez…
Goals
Wherever he has been in his career, Hernandez has scored goals on a regular basis and that could be something Southampton need after last season.
Despite an eighth-place finish in the Premier League, the Saints struggled to find the net and scored just 17 home league goals throughout the previous campaign – and just 41 in 38 matches in total.
While Manolo Gabbiadini only joined during the January transfer window and Charlie Austin missed half of the season because of injury, Mauricio Pellegrino may want to add more firepower and there won’t be many better options on the market right now than Hernandez.
Statement of intent
The likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Bertrand have been linked with moves away this summer but the latest reports in The Mirror suggest that the club want to keep hold of their best players.
While that may be of an annoyance to those players, they are both on long contracts with the club and Southampton could appease them by showing some ambition in the transfer market this summer.
Bringing in a renowned goalscorer such as Hernandez to St Mary’s would certainly be a huge statement of intent, and show that the club is determined to return to Europe this season.
Price tag
While transfer prices are ever-increasing it is difficult to see Southampton going out and spending £30m-plus on a player right now after becoming respected for being such a well run Premier League club in recent years.
The fact that Sofiane Boufal is their current club-record signing at £16m proves that and the range between £10m-£16m has certainly been popular for the fees they have paid for new players in recent years.
In that respect the fact that a proven player like Hernandez is available for £13m will certainly have sparked the south coast outfit’s interest, but his potential wages could be an issue.
