da esoccer bet: Arsene Wenger has stated that he is proud of his side after they beat AC Milan 3-0 on Tuesday night, despite being eliminated from the Champions League.
The Gunners were beaten 4-0 in the first leg of their tie against the Italian giants, but goals from Laurent Koscielny, Tomas Rosicky and Robin van Persie restored some pride for the English team.
Wenger has happy with his side’s efforts, especially given that they had injury concerns in midfield.
“They can only be proud of their performance,” the French coach told Sky Sports after the game.
“I felt we were a bit short. We had no midfielders at all on the bench.
“We suffered a little bit when we got tired in the second half. We were a bit more fatigued. I’m sure we would have scored two or three more goals in the second half.
“But to put the performance in is fantastic spirit and restored some pride after our first tie. Unfortunately we go out,” he continued.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain put in an excellent performance in central midfield, and gained praise from his boss after the match.
“He was sick last night. We were not sure that he could play. He had flu. In the end, we decided to check him at the warm-up.
“I felt he was outstanding,” Wenger concluded.
Arsenal face Newcastle at home this weekend as they look to continue their push for a top four finish.
