da imperador bet: Liverpool had to settle for a draw this afternoon after a thrilling Merseyside derby played out at Goodison Park. Four goals and a red card later and the spoils have been shared, keeping Everton at the top of the Premier League.
da casino: The Reds entered the match off the back of a 7-2 demolition, falling at the sword of Aston Villa who had a field day on home soil last time out. However, it wasn’t a performance Jurgen Klopp will be pleased with, as one man in particular was trusted to step up to the plate and fell drastically short.
Defensive disappointment against Everton
After just 11 minutes into play, Joe Gomez was brought onto the pitch alongside Joel Matip after a horror tackle from Jordan Pickford forced Virgil van Dijk off. It looked to be a decision Klopp didn’t want to make, after dropping Gomez in favour of the Cameroonian.
Defence has been an issue for Liverpool since Alisson picked up a shoulder injury. The inconsistent Adrian started in goal at Goodison and struggled to cope with the in-form Toffees attack. The centre-back partnership deployed to help him out, similarly struggled.
According to Sofascore, Gomez failed to register a single tackle, block or interception in the 79 minutes he was on the pitch. He also completed just one of his attempted six long balls, showing a huge difference in his and van Dijk’s ability to create play from the backline.
Liverpool will take this draw and head into their next match against Sheffield United. After dropping four points in the last two games, Klopp will be furious and must turn to the drawing board to assess how they will move forwards with van Dijk potential sidelined. After Gomez’s performance, the German might opt to shift Fabinho into defence as he did earlier this season. The centre-back’s recent performances only further highlight the reasoning behind Klopp’s decision to bench him.
