da supremo: Son Heung-Min was in terrible form as Tottenham Hotspur lost 1-0 to Liverpool on Saturday.
On the chalkboard
da brdice: The two sides met in north London with the Reds looking to extend an 11-game winning run in the top-flight.
Roberto Firmino’s goal proved decisive and Jurgen Klopp’s men are now 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League.
The result, however, could have been markedly different had Son taken a gilt-edged chance, finding himself one-on-one with Alisson Becker but ballooning the ball over the crossbar.
The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?
Giovani Lo Celso later missed a chance from close-range but Son was disappointing throughout the 90 minutes.
Per WhoScored, he had 31 touches of the ball, the fewest of any Spurs player to start the game.
While he had a pass success rate of 94%, he did not register a key pass and he only had one shot on target from four attempted; it was a tame effort from the edge of the box that was comfortably saved by Alisson.
Son also completed just 50% of the dribbles he attempted and was dispossessed once.
Wasteful
This was such a disappointing showing from a player who really needs to step up.
Harry Kane is out until April and, with no other senior striker in the squad, the South Korea international is perhaps the club’s primary goal threat – he has scored 10 goals in all competitions this term.
But on Saturday, he did not manage to properly affect the game in the final third.
He was wasteful, consistently making the wrong decision in the opposition half and routinely failing to trouble Alisson in the Reds goal.
Had he been on form, Spurs could well have taken a point or more. But he wasn’t and it is no surprise that Jose Mourinho’s men therefore left without gaining a result.
Meanwhile, Spurs could have been just as good as Liverpool!
